Applicable ASME Code: ASME A17.1-2010 3.18.3.8 - Cylinders Buried in the Ground
3.18.3.8.1 Cylinders buried in the ground shall be protected from corrosion due to galvanic or electrolytic action, saltwater, or other underground conditions.
The JACK-IT® is impervious to chemicals and is corrosive resistant. The material is non-conductive PVC/PEU material which protects from corrosion due to galvanic or electrolytic action. In addition, the material is impervious to water, fresh or salt. It has resistance to a variety of corrosive chemicals.
3.18.3.8.2 The methods specified in 3.18.3.8.3 shall be considered as acceptable, provided that they

(a) are designed and installed with means for monitoring and maintaining them in accordance with recognized industry standards applicable to the methods

(b) are effective for specific conditions where the cylinders is installed. (c) provide means for checking ongoing compliance with 3.18.3.8.1
JACK-IT® liners are custom designed according to the monitoring system provided by the installer. Upon request Laird Plastics can include a basic monitoring system, which includes 2 tubes: one going the length of the liner that is attached to the bottom for evacuation, one about 4 feet long for pressurizing.
3.18.3.8.3 The following are the specified methods:

(a) the cylinder shall be constructed of a material that is immune to the stated conditions; or

(b) the cylinder shall be completely covered or encased in a material that completely surrounds the exterior surface and is immune to the stated conditions. If the space between the protective casing and the cylinder is empty, the casing must be designed to withstand the static head of water from ground level to the bottom of the cylinder, based on the manufacturer's rating of the material used; or

(c) the cylinder shall be protected by a means that will provide an immunity level not less than that provided by above methods for the stated conditions.
The JACK-IT® liner is constructed of a material that is immune to the stated conditions. The JACK-IT® will completely cover the exterior surface of the hydraulic jack in the space between the jack and the casing. Laird Jack-ItTM is constructed in one monolithic piece.
